Ketogenic diets have had a lot of press lately for humans and more recently dogs. They can be used for many different conditions but here at My Pet Nutritionist we often use with our cancer clients. This is by no means a cure but a supportive diet for the immune system which encourages ketosis. Ketosis uses fat as opposed to carbohydrate as an energy source. This recipe is within FEDIAF guidelines and focuses on a ketogenic approach of fat:protein being 2:1.
Grass fed lamb ground 20% fat, lambs liver, egg, broccoli, shiitake mushroom dried, spinach, organic virgin coconut oil, now bonemeal, wheatgrass organic, starwest botanicals kelp powder, Himalayan salt, Vitamin d3/k2.
Please do not give to a dog with liver issues, liver cancer, pancreatitis or gut issues such as IBS/IBD. Always introduce a new diet slowly to ensure tolerance. If blood tests showed high clinical readings, we recommend testing levels with your vet, 4-6 weeks after starting the diet. If you wish to remain in ketosis please do not feed extra treats.
We wish we had the answer to this. Many receive a plan and need additional support as many of the cases we see are unwell dogs. We do however help you as much as possible, in-between and only suggest aftercare if it is absolutely necessary.
